Creating a Custom Split Inbox

You can create new Splits to further customize your inbox and provide deeper focus.


Try it Now on Desktop

  1. Select the email from which you'd like create a new Split.
  2. Hit Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) → New Split Inbox.
  3. Choose whether you'd like to use the sender, domain, recipient, subject, or label for the Split.
  4. Enter a name for your Split.

  1. Two-finger tap for Superhuman Command, then type Split Inbox Settings.
  2. Tap the account you'd like to create a Split in.
  3. Tap Add Split Inbox.
  4. Under Build your own, tap how you'd like to create that Split query. (Choose between the email, domain, or subject).

Adding to a Split

You can easily add emails to existing Splits to support your organizational structures.

  1. Select the email you’d like to add to a Split.
  2. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Add to Split Inbox.
  3. Choose whether you’d like to add the sender, domain, recipient, subject, or label to the Split.
  4. Select the Split you’re adding to.

  1. Tap on an email you'd like to add to a Split.
  2. Two-finger tap for Superhuman Command, then type Add to Split Inbox.
  3. Choose whether you'd like to add the sender or domain to the Split.
  4. Select the Split you're adding to.

Editing a Split

You can make edits to any custom Split you've created.

  1. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Split Inbox Settings.
  2. Click the ⚙️ next to the custom Split to rename it, delete it, or add or remove definitions.
  3. Hit Save to make those changes.

  1. Two-finger tap for Superhuman Command, then type Split Inbox Settings.
  2. Tap the account you would like to edit a Split in.
  3. Tap the Split you would like to edit.
  4. Tap the red minus sign to remove a definition, or tap Add Email or Domain to add another definition.

💡 Tips

  • As you learned earlier, Splits are meant to promote focus, so you should reserve them for intentional workflows or priorities. Two to five Splits can be helpful in creating structure and prioritization; more than five Splits may detract from your productivity as you cycle through them looking for messages.
  • Custom Splits are great for emails that clog up your inbox because you get such large volume or that you’d like to batch process.
  • Name your splits with an emoji to save space and add some color! Just hit : when naming 😄
