Auto Labels

Superhuman AI automatically labels your emails so that you can prioritize what matters most.

Built-in Auto Labels

All Superhuman users get a few built-in Auto Labels to help you filter out the noise in your inbox:

  • Marketing: Marketing and promotional messages.
  • News: News and newsletter messages.
  • Pitch: Cold pitch and outreach messages.
  • Social: Social network and online community messages.

If you have Important • Other enabled, conversations with these Auto Labels will now land in your Other split. That way you can focus on what matters most.

If you have previously marked individual conversations or specific senders as important using using Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) → Move to Important, these conversations will continue to land in Important. That way you never miss an important message!

Custom Auto Labels (Business & Enterprise Plans)

Write your own custom AI prompt to Auto Label a specific set of emails.

To create a custom Auto Label, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → New Auto Label. Then enter an AI prompt for a set of emails, like “Requests to review work” or “Emails about Project Acme.”

Going forward, all messages that satisfy your prompt will automatically receive that label. This will also apply retroactively to your past 14 days of messages!

Best Practices for Writing AI Prompts

Treat Superhuman AI like your new assistant! These instructions will ensure you create excellent Auto Labels every time:

  • Be explicit – Clearly define the criteria for labeling emails.
  • Use examples – Providing an example email that fits the category can help refine the logic.
  • Consider variations – Think about alternative phrasings that may be clearer.
  • Iterate and refine – Test your prompt and make adjustments based on misclassifications.

Auto Labels categorize conversations based on their content, subject, sender, and recipients.
Do not include in your prompt information like: whether the conversation is unread, when the conversation was received, whether it has an attachment, frequency of messages from that sender, CRM information on that sender, etc.

By carefully structuring your prompts, using precise language, and considering possible edge cases, you can improve the accuracy of your Auto Labels system and enhance your email management workflow.
