Write with AI helps you turn ideas into polished emails. From summaries to drafts to smarter search, Superhuman AI helps you take charge of your inbox faster than ever before ⚡

Desktop

When you sign into a new account, hit Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) → Activate Superhuman AI to enable Superhuman AI. 

Drafting Mode

When drafting a message, hit Cmd+J or Ctrl+J to write with AI. Then, type a prompt and hit Enter to have Superhuman AI draft a message. The more context and keywords you include, the more specific the drafted message will be.

Editing Mode

You can access Editing Mode in two ways to make small or larger edits:

1. Directly after a message has been crafted in Drafting Mode.
2. Highlighting existing text and hitting Cmd+J or Ctrl+J.

For a quick change to the draft, select a suggestion from the menu (Improve writing, Fix spelling and grammar, Shorten, Lengthen, Simplify).

For a larger change, type a specific prompt in the "Describe how to edit the text" box. 

For further customization, click Settings → Write with AI. 

💡Tip: Use Write with AI to translate your draft into another language! 

AI Sidebar Handoff (Business & Enterprise Plans)

If Write with AI needs more information or you ask it to complete a non-drafting task, Ask AI will automatically open to help clarify. 

For example, if you prompt Write with AI to send a follow-up and schedule a meeting, a draft event will appear in the AI sidebar 👇 

Mobile

Tap the ai icon above the keyboard to use Write with AI. 

💡 Tip: Instead of writing your prompt, use Voice Dictation by tapping the Microphone icon in the bottom right corner of the keyboard!

Tips for Writing AI Prompts

• Be clear and concise — Use specific, straightforward language to get more accurate responses.
  • Example: Use the meeting notes below to write a friendly, concise follow-up email with clear action items.
• State your objective upfront — Let AI know from the start what you're trying to achieve.
  • Example: I’m an Account Executive trying to close a deal with ABC Company. Write a follow-up email that re-engages a prospect who went cold after our last conversation. Include a friendly tone and a clear call to action.
• Provide examples — Share relevant examples or inputs to help guide tone, format, or structure.
  • Example: Here are two past onboarding emails we've sent to new users. Use the same tone and structure to draft one for our latest AI launch.
• Specify the format — Clearly state how you want the output delivered (e.g., bullet points, paragraphs).
  • Example: Write a concise email communicating the pros and cons of calendar blocking. Include 3-4 points in bullet format.
• Use paraphrasing — If the first response isn’t quite right, rephrase your prompt and try again.
  • Example: Reword this sales email to be more concise and action-oriented, with a stronger call to action at the end.
• Incorporate useful context — Include relevant company terms or background to improve accuracy.
  • Example: Discuss the impact of Superhuman, the fastest email experience ever made, to increase responsiveness and reduce email anxiety. Here’s our latest blog post copy for context.
• Challenge Superhuman AI — If the output misses the mark, give feedback and guide it in the right direction.
  • Example: This follow-up email feels too generic. Make it more personalized by referencing the customer’s recent product usage and include a specific next step.

FAQs

"Rewrite in my own voice" doesn't sound like me.

If “rewrite in my own voice” doesn’t quite sound like you, let our team know by using the thumbs up/down buttons on any Superhuman AI response. That'll send the feedback directly to our AI team about the prompt you put in and the response you received so we can continue improving the features.

Can I see past prompts that I've used? 

If you are on the Business or Enterprise plan, you can see your past prompts in the Chat History in the Ask AI sidebar.

Will my emails be stored?

With Ask AI enabled, Superhuman Mail stores your emails through a trusted SOC 2 compliant third-party vendor. Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest.

We have a Zero Day Data Retention agreement, so your data will not be saved or retained by LLM providers.

Will the queries I send and responses I receive back be stored?

We do not store the queries used for Write with AI, Instant Reply, and Auto Summarize.

We do not store responses for Write with AI. For Instant Reply and Auto Summarize, we store the responses for 90 days so that they are available for you if you open the email again.

The queries used and responses received for Ask AI are stored to help improve quality and allow for debugging. We do not store your calendar or your attachments other than their names.

We do not read responses or your email content unless you explicitly give us consent while submitting feedback.

Will anyone train on my data?

Neither Mail nor any vendor trains on your data.

Can I request to have my data deleted?

Yes. If you would like your data deleted, please reach out to hello@superhuman.com.
