Add the Superhuman Mail app to Slack

Bring Shared Conversations and Team Comments into Slack, so teammates who aren’t on Superhuman Mail yet can see the email and comment on it right where they work ⚡

The Superhuman Mail app for Slack connects a shared conversation to a Slack channel. Comments flow both ways, and new emails on the thread post into Slack automatically.

Note: The Superhuman Mail app for Slack is currently in Beta with select teams. Want your team included? Email lily@superhuman.com.

What the Superhuman Mail app for Slack does

  • Comments sync both ways: A Team Comment posted in Superhuman Mail shows up in the linked Slack thread, and a reply in that thread shows up as a comment on the conversation in Superhuman Mail. Comments from Superhuman Mail are labeled “[Name] (via Superhuman Mail)”, and comments from Slack are labeled with the channel (for example, “in #channel”). Formatting and line breaks carry over.
  • Links unfurl into a card: Paste a shared conversation link into Slack and it turns into a card with the subject, sender and recipients, a message preview, and the time. An Open in Superhuman Mail button takes you back to the thread.
  • New emails post to the thread: Once syncing starts, new messages on the conversation appear in the Slack thread, so everyone sees the latest without anyone forwarding or screenshotting.
  • @mentions match across Slack and Superhuman Mail: We match people by email, so mentioning a teammate in Slack ties to the right person in Superhuman Mail, and the other way around.

Your Slack teammates don’t need a Superhuman Mail account to join in. People who aren’t on Superhuman Mail appear as guests, with no seat required.

Set up the Superhuman Mail app for Slack

Setup takes one step from your Slack admin. There’s no separate setup for each teammate, and no sign-in step for anyone else.
  1. Have your Slack admin click the install link in your Beta invitation email to add the app to your workspace.
  2. Follow the prompts to authorize the Superhuman Mail app.
💡 Tip: Not an admin? Forward the email to your Slack admin so they can install the app for your team.

Share a conversation to Slack

Desktop

  1. In Superhuman Mail, open the conversation you want to share and click Share → Copy Link.
  2. Paste the link into a public or private Slack channel. The conversation unfurls into a card.
  3. If Superhuman Mail isn’t in that channel yet, Slack offers to add it. In a private channel, you’ll be asked to invite the app first.

Syncing starts, and from there you can comment from either side. Comments you leave in Superhuman Mail (hit M) appear in the linked Slack thread, and replies in that thread come back as comments on the conversation.

Note: In Beta, anyone in the channel can paste a shared conversation link and start a sync. Slack Connect channels aren’t supported, and links pasted into DMs show a preview but don’t sync.

Mobile

This is only available on Desktop for now.

Stop syncing

Don’t want something synced? You can stop at any time, from either side.

In Slack, use the controls at the bottom of the thread. You have three options:

  • Stop syncing comments: Comments stop flowing in both directions, but new emails keep posting to the channel.
  • Stop syncing this channel: Nothing new syncs to that channel.
  • Stop all syncing: Nothing new syncs anywhere.

In Superhuman Mail, click Share → Stop syncing.

Either way, nothing already posted is removed. The Slack thread and everything in it stays where it is. Only future syncing stops.

What syncs and what doesn’t

  • Comment edits: Edits you make in Slack sync to Superhuman Mail. Edits you make in Superhuman Mail don’t sync to Slack yet.
  • Deleted comments: Deletions sync in both directions.
  • Attachments and images: These don’t sync in Beta. If one is added in Slack, you’ll see a link back to it in Superhuman Mail.

FAQs

How do I connect Slack to Superhuman Mail?

Your Slack admin installs the app once using the install link in your Beta email. After that, everyone on your team can start syncing. There’s no separate sign-in.

Do my Slack teammates need a Superhuman Mail account?

No. Once a conversation is synced, anyone in that channel can read the email and reply right from Slack. Their replies show up as comments on the thread in Superhuman Mail, so you can collaborate with your whole team whether or not they’re on Superhuman Mail yet.

How do I start or stop syncing a conversation?

To start, click Share → Copy Link in Superhuman Mail and paste the link into the Slack channel you want. To stop, use the controls at the bottom of the Slack thread, or click Share → Stop syncing in Superhuman Mail. See the Stop syncing section above for the options.

Can I @mention someone across Slack and Superhuman Mail?

Yes. We match people by email, so mentioning a teammate in Slack ties to the right person in Superhuman Mail.

Does this post messages as me, or as a bot?

During beta, synced comments post from the Superhuman Mail app, labeled with your name (“[Name] (via Superhuman Mail)”). Slack doesn’t let a bot post as an individual user without a separate authorization step, so we plan to add posting as you later.

Why does my email show as coming from a “Private channel”?

Private Slack channels currently show as “Private channel” without a preview, so several private syncs can look alike. We’re exploring ways to distinguish them.

Can I sync a conversation to more than one Slack channel?

Not yet. In Beta, a conversation syncs to one Slack channel at a time. Tell us if you’d like to sync to more than one at lily@superhuman.com.

Does stopping a sync delete the Slack thread?

No. Existing emails and comments stay exactly where they are. Only future syncing stops.

Is this available on Mobile?

Not yet. This is only available on Desktop for now.

Which plans include this?

At GA, the Superhuman Mail app for Slack will be available to all Superhuman Mail customers. For now, it’s limited to select Beta teams. Want your team included? Email lily@superhuman.com.

How do I share feedback?
