Mark Done clears an email out of your inbox the moment you’ve handled it — without deleting a thing — so you can reach Inbox Zero and trust that nothing is ever lost.

What Mark Done does

The email leaves your inbox but isn’t deleted — Mark Done is Superhuman Mail’s version of archiving. Think of your inbox as a to-do list: Done means handled, not gone.

When you’re finished with an email on Desktop, hit E to mark it Done. On Mobile, swipe left on a message in your inbox to mark it Done (you can customize this in Settings) — or, when viewing a message, tap the checkmark at the bottom of the screen.

💡Tip: Change your mind? Hit Z on Desktop to undo, or tap Undo on Mobile.

Where your Done emails go

Every email you mark Done moves to your Done folder, where it stays safe and fully searchable. If someone replies to a thread you’ve marked Done, it comes right back to your inbox on its own — so you’ll never miss a response.

To access the Done folder on Desktop, hit Cmd+K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows) → go to Done or G then E. On Mobile, tap Inbox or Important at the bottom of the screen, then tap Done.

You can also find any Done email through search at any time. On Desktop, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Search or /. On Mobile, pull down from the top of the inbox to search.

Done, folders, or Trash

Three actions look similar but do different things:

  • Mark Done — archives the email to your Done folder (searchable, never deleted). On Desktop, hit E. On Mobile, swipe left, or tap the checkmark when viewing a message.
  • Folder — files the email in a specific folder and marks it Done. On Desktop, hit V. On Mobile, set this up in Conversation Triage Actions → Move.
  • Trash — deletes the email (this is the only action that actually deletes). On Desktop, hit #. On Mobile, set this up in Conversation Triage Actions → Trash.

Note that marking an email Done never deletes it. If you can’t find a Done email, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Search or / to run a search, or hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → go to Done or G then E to access the Done folder.

💡 Tip: To clear a full inbox at once on Desktop, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Get Me To Zero. It archives older emails in bulk, and you have seven days to reverse it — just hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Bulk Actions.

FAQs

Does Mark Done delete my email?

No. Mark Done archives the email to your Done folder. It’s always saved and searchable — only # (Trash) deletes an email.

Can I get a Done email back?

Yes. Open your Done folder by hitting Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → go to Done or G then E. You can also search for the email by hitting Cmd+K or Ctrl+K → Search or /. Move it back to your inbox anytime, and it returns on its own if someone replies.

Where do Done emails go in Gmail or Outlook?

Mark Done maps to archiving in your underlying email client. In Gmail, emails you mark Done move to All Mail. In Outlook, they move to your Archive folder. Either way, they stay searchable in Superhuman Mail — and in your original email client.

What does Send + Mark Done do?

Send + Mark Done sends your message and immediately marks the message Done — your reply goes out, and the message moves straight to your Done folder. To turn it on or off, click Settings → Send + Mark Done.
