If Grammarly feels slow or causes your device to lag, it is usually due to low battery, background restrictions, low device storage, or interference from security software. Follow the steps below to resolve this.
Step 1: Restart your device
Before anything else, restart your device. This clears temporary files and frees up RAM, which can resolve lag caused by a heavy background load.
Open Grammarly after restarting and check if performance has improved.
Step 2: Check available storage
Low storage can cause apps to run slowly. We recommend having at least 1 GB of free storage on your device. To check this, follow these steps:
- Open Settings → Storage (or, on Samsung: Device care → Storage).
- Check how much free space is available.
- If storage is low, delete unused apps, clear app cache, or move files to free up space.
After freeing up storage, open Grammarly and check if performance has improved.
Step 3: Check for security software interference
Firewall, VPN, or antivirus apps can slow down Grammarly by scanning or intercepting its network traffic.
- Temporarily turn off any firewall, VPN, or antivirus app running on your device.
- Open Grammarly and check if performance has improved.
If this helps, it indicates that the security software was the cause. Add Grammarly to the allowed list of that software, then re-enable it. See your security software’s documentation for instructions on how to do this.
