Downgrade your Superhuman Docs workspace

For workspace admins: how to cancel your Docs subscription or downgrade to a lower tier.

Β

πŸ“£ On October 29, 2025, Superhuman launched bundled plan offerings for Coda (now Docs), Grammarly, and Superhuman Mail. If your Superhuman Docs workspace is linked to a Superhuman bundled plan, the downgrading instructions in the following article will not apply. Instead, billing details and downgrades are handled through the Superhuman Admin Hub. Please head to this article for information on managing your Superhuman subscription through the admin hub.

We understand that the features of the paid plans may not be necessary for everyone. So this article will walk you through how to cancel your Superhuman Docs subscription.

Please note: This article is intended only for customers on our Pro and Team plans. If you’re an Enterprise customer looking to downgrade, please contact your account team or Superhuman Docs Support.

Understand the terminology

Before canceling or downgrading, it may be helpful to review some relevant terminology:

  • Workspace: A workspace is the home for Superhuman Docs docs and customers. Each workspace is on a specific plan (Free, Pro, Team, or Enterprise), and will have slightly different features accordingly. So billing happens at the workspace level.

  • Delete workspace: Deleting a workspace will fully and permanently delete the workspace for all members. A workspace must be empty of all docs before it can be deleted. If the workspace is on a paid plan, it must also be downgraded before it can be deleted. Learn more about deleting workspaces here.

  • Downgrade workspace: Downgrading is the act of going from a higher-cost plan to a lower-cost (or no-cost) plan. Downgrading does not delete a workspace, so the workspace and its docs will still be accessible by the members. The section below will explain how to downgrade a Superhuman Docs workspace.

    • ”Canceling your Docs subscription” is synonymous with downgrading to the Free tier.

  • Billing account: Each workspace has a billing account. The billing account can be accessed via the Workspace plan tab of your admin settings. Learn more here.

  • Superhuman Docs account: This is how you access Superhuman Docs. Each member in a workspace has a Superhuman Docs account, and each Superhuman Docs account can belong to multiple workspaces. To learn about deleting your account, check out this article.

Downgrade your Superhuman Docs subscription

Note that you have to be a workspace admin in order to downgrade your Docs workspace.

Note that if your Superhuman Docs workspace is part of a Superhuman bundle, downgrading your Docs plan will require downgrading the entire bundle. Learn more about managing your Superhuman bundle subscription here.

Canceling your Superhuman Docs plan is synonymous with downgrading to the Free tier. To downgrade your Superhuman Docs workspace, just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your workspace home (docs.superhuman.com)

  2. Click on your name in the lower-left corner, then select Admin settings from the menu

  3. Navigate to the Workspace plan tab, within the Billing section

  4. Next to your plan type at the top, select Compare plans

    1. πŸ“£ If you're unable to downgrade directly in Docs and are instead being directed to Superhuman, this is likely because your Docs workspace is part of a Superhuman bundle. Check out this article for more info on managing your Superhuman subscription.
  5. Find the plan you want to downgrade to, then click the Downgrade button beneath it. If you want to cancel your subscription entirely, choose the Free plan.

    1. Note that if you are trying to downgrade from Team/Business to Pro, you may be prompted to contact Superhuman Docs support to complete this process.

  6. You’ll then see some warnings about what will happen when you downgrade. Depending on your situation, this may include docs becoming read-only. If you still want to proceed, click Downgrade anyway.

  7. Follow the prompts to confirm the downgrade.

If you’ve downgraded to the Free plan, you will have access to your previous paid plan until the end of your current billing period. In the billing tab of your workspace settings, you’ll see what day your workspace will be downgraded.

FAQs

Why are some docs now read-only after downgrading? What can I do about this?

When you downgrade, you’ll have a 14-day grace period to remove any paid features (locking, paid Packs, custom icons, etc.) before your docs become read-only. If you remove those paid features before the 14-day grace period, your docs will remain editable and you won’t experience any interruption. If you’ve passed the grace period without adjusting for those paid elements, your doc will be uneditable. In that case, you’ll need to contact support (through the ? in the bottom right of your doc) for further assistance.

How can I delete a Superhuman Docs workspace?

If you want to fully delete a Docs workspace instead of just downgrading it, follow the steps here.

How do I delete my Superhuman Docs account?

Downgrading and cancelling only apply to workspaces - not to individual Superhuman Docs accounts. If you’re looking to delete your Docs account entirely, head over to this article.

Who is affected when I downgrade my workspace?

Downgrading applies to the entire workspace, not to your individual account. Therefore all workspaces members and all of their docs will be affected by downgrading.

What happens if I’ve already paid for my next billing cycle but downgrade before that billing cycle is complete?

If you’re downgrading from Team to Pro, any unused balance from your last Team plan payment will become a credit on your billing account. This credit will automatically go towards your next Pro plan payment.

If you’re downgrading to a Free plan, the downgrade won’t happen instantly. Instead, you will continue to have access to your paid plan until the end of your current billing cycle.

I scheduled a downgrade to the Free plan, but I’ve changed my mind. Can I cancel this downgrade?

Yes - if you still have a pending downgrade, you can cancel it via your billing hub. Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to docs.superhuman.com

  2. Click on your name in the lower-left, then choose Admin settings from the list

  3. Navigate to the Workspace plan tab

  4. At the top of the page, you should see a note about your upcoming downgrade. Simply click Cancel downgrade to cancel this and remain on your current paid plan.

If your downgrade has already been completed, you can upgrade back to your desired plan by following the steps here.

Why am I being redirected to Superhuman when I try to downgrade my Docs workspace?

If your Docs workspace is linked to a Superhuman bundle, all billing - including downgrades - will be handled through the Superhuman admin hub. You can find more info about this here.
