Use labels in Superhuman Mail to quickly categorize or store important information without cluttering your inbox 🏷️

Note: How labels work depends on your account. In a Gmail account, labels are your Gmail labels. In an Outlook account, your Outlook categories appear as labels β€” you can apply, remove, and create them right from Superhuman, and changes sync back to Outlook automatically.

FAQs

Can I use labels in my Outlook account?

Yes. Your Outlook categories appear as labels in Mail, so you can apply, remove, and create them right from Superhuman. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ Label or L on any message, then type the name of an existing category or a new one. Your changes sync back to Outlook automatically.

Why do my Outlook categories show up as labels?

We use β€œlabels” consistently across Mail, and your Outlook categories map directly to Mail labels. Nothing changes on the Outlook side β€” it’s just our naming, so everything feels consistent as you move around Mail.

Can I create a new category in Mail?

Yes. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ Label or L and type the name of your new category. New categories created in Mail start with a neutral gray color, and they sync back to Outlook as categories.

Can I rename a category in Mail?

Not yet. To rename a category, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ Open Outlook and make the change there.

Why don’t my categories show up in the Move menu?

In Outlook, categories are tags rather than folders or destinations, so Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ Move or V shows your folders only. To see everything in a category, hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ go to [label].

Can I build a Split Inbox from a category?

Yes. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ Search or / to start a search, then enter label:β€œcategory name”. Hit Cmd+K or Ctrl+K β†’ New Split Inbox and select New split from search, then name your Split Inbox. From then on, adding that label to a message will send it to your new Split Inbox.

Will categories show up on Mobile?

Not yet. Category labels display on Desktop and Web for now, and Mobile support is on our radar for a future update.

Why can’t I see all my folders?

We now show a cap of nine folders until you see a Show more option to expand the rest of your folders.
